Summer of Boat Work!

There's the common expression, "cruising is just boat projects in exotic locations." This summer was like that, but without the cruising or exotic locations. But having made a small dent in our project list, we're feeling accomplished.

What we did during the haul out:
  • examined two superficial cracks in the rudder post and keel and re-glassed
  • sanded and anti-foul painted the bottom
  • waxed topsides
  • replaced the PSS shaft seal
  • replaced a questionable seacock
What we did while in the water:
  • redesigned our v-berth clothes storage (by far the longest, most frustrating project of the summer) and re-insulated the v-berth hull for next winter
  • replaced house batteries
  • rewired water pump
  • mounted the solar mount displays
  • installed a SmartPlug shore power connector
  • installed both offshore solar and shore power charging solutions for the battery for our electric Minn Kota dinghy motor
  • waxed the deck (but not yet the cockpit)
  • polished and cleaned any rusty metal on shrouds, parts of the anchor chain, canvas hardware, and deck hardware
  • cleaned and added fluid film to keel bolts to prevent corrosion
  • installed an extra cam cleat on our boom to give us more reefing versatility
  • cleaned and reorganized all interior storage
  • replaced the o-ring, base mount, joker valve in our head and added an additional valve to the saltwater hose after a "crappy" breakage
  • cleaned and waterproofed all Sunbrella canvas
  • maintained the engine: changed oil, transmission fluid, filters
  • sewed a new forward hatch cover
  • diagnosed low water pressure in the shower; replaced fixture and aerator
  • Rebed the hardware in our forward hatch
Send us a message if you have any questions about any of the projects we did. We certainly depend on on other sailors to help us troubleshoot, and we're always looking for ways to pass info along.

Happy to see the crack in our rudder post was only gelcoat-deep

re-glassed, re-epoxied, relieved :)
